Local residents claim that the most suitable periods for visiting the country are May and September. During these months the climate is warm but not scorching, making walks and sightseeing comfortable.
Yet the country remains pleasant to explore in other autumn months as well.
In September the air temperature in Yerevan typically ranges between +20 °C and +28 °C, while rain quickly subsides. In the mountainous regions it cools to around +18 °C. The water in Lake Sevan stays at +17 …+18 °C, and because the lake rarely warms above +22 °C, swimming is still possible until mid‑September.
October is also comfortable, with temperatures from +10 °C to +18 °C. This month the capital hosts its city day celebrations, and nationwide the harvest festival takes place — a vivid gastronomic event offering a chance to taste local cuisine and sample delicious Armenian fruits.
Although November brings temperatures near +7 °C, the lowlands rarely experience frost, while mountain areas become increasingly wintry.

Republic Square serves as the city’s central hub and the pulse of urban life. In September you can enjoy singing fountains — an enchanting display of light, music and water. The square exudes a unique atmosphere and often hosts unusual street performances. For instance, a musician plays melodies on bottles, crafting a distinctive instrument called a bottle‑fon; the sound varies with glass thickness and water volume.
The Cascade comprises five terraces offering panoramic city views. Here you can immerse yourself in an open‑air museum of modern art. The complex showcases works by diverse artists, features fountains, exhibition halls and flowerbeds. Access to the upper terrace is possible via a 556‑step staircase or escalators operating daily from 08:00 to 20:00. Though the upper sections remain unfinished, the vista is well worth the climb.
Nothern Avenue is a pedestrian zone opened less than twenty years ago, lined with upscale shops, restaurants, offices and apartments. Beneath the pavement lies a shopping gallery. On this street you can see the “Key to the City” — a striking sculpture of a giant key hanging from a chain above the city emblem, giving the installation a remarkable visual impact.

The Mother Armenia monument features a 22‑meter statue commemorating victory in the Great Patriotic War, accompanied by a museum of military hardware. The capital is rich in genre sculptures. A notable example is the monument to Karabal, a flower seller, dedicated to a real person whose life story is told through a beautiful yet melancholic legend.
Pay attention to the child figures in the 2 800‑year‑anniversary park; they appear as whimsical fountain statues, offering an ultra‑photogenic scene.

Garni (28 km from Yerevan) is an ancient 1st‑century temple. Though repeatedly damaged by earthquakes, its ruins were restored in 1976. Near the entrance lie preserved Roman baths and mosaics. In autumn the surrounding mountains and valleys acquire strikingly vivid colours.
Just 7 minutes by car from Garni lies the “Symphony of Stones” — a basalt formation of uniform hexagonal pillars reaching about 50 m in height. These natural columns, created by lava cooling roughly 40 million years ago, are often called the “Basalt Organ” for their musical resemblance.
The Garni Monastery complex (36 km from Yerevan) nestles in a picturesque gorge of the Goght River. The site includes a secluded church carved into the rock and a hall renowned for its superb acoustics. Legend says a relic used to pierce Christ is kept here. Part of the complex is hewn directly from the cliff. The monastery remains active, and visitors must observe a modest dress code.
Lake Sevan (≈ 60 km from Yerevan) is the largest lake on the Caucasus, earning it the nickname “Armenian Sea.” The shore offers beaches, restaurants, recreation zones and resorts. On a nearby hill stands the ancient Sevanavank monastery and a collection of khachkars — a must‑see site. In autumn the roadside is adorned with abundant sea buckthorn, creating a striking visual effect. Freshly squeezed sea‑buckthorn juice and seasonal fruits are available along the route. Dark, glittering inclusions of obsidian — volcanic glass — can also be seen on the roadside rocks.
Because tourism infrastructure around the lake is well‑developed, an overnight stay is advisable during warm months; however, in colder periods it is more comfortable to return to Yerevan each evening. The lake’s accommodations are primarily summer‑oriented.
Tsakhkadzor (within 60 km of Yerevan) is a ski resort featuring an old chairlift. Autumn reveals breathtaking views of the Caucasus range, cloaked in mixed forests. We recommend riding the lift up and then hiking down through forest trails.
Dilijan (≈ 95 km from Yerevan) is a climatic and balneological resort surrounded by the Dilijan Reserve, one of the richest protected areas of the South Caucasus.
